Not This Year...Bummer

Yesterday I got some bad news from Sylvia and I will not be going to Canada.

I had just got done saddling a horse when she asked me if I would like to go with her and her sister, Sharon for lunch. Before we left, she told me that she had a major problem and it was driving her crazy. I asked her if it was about me and she nodded. I thought I was in trouble, and started to get nervous. She told me that she was really stressed out with getting Sharon and her daughter Ashley situated, which was putting pressure between her and her husband, and something happened with her younger stallion, Khasabi. Even before she said it, I knew she was hinting at me not being able to go to Canada with them.

We went into the lounge for more privacy and she told me that the farm that Khasabi is at has one horse in quarantine. Even though it is only the one horse, who doesn't have a contagious disease unless it breeds or something similar to an STD in humans, and the rest of the barn can be shown in the US, the entire barn has been labeled under quarantine and is not able to show outside of the US. Yes, that means that Khasabi will not be going to the Canadian Nationals, as well as the entire barn, including 5 other clients who have paid entry fees, stall fees, hotel, etc. Since I would only be needed for setting up the stall area and packing the trailer, it would be unnecessary for me to go for only 2 horses.

She had a really hard time getting this out, and we looked at each other and I said, "There's always next year." With that, she started to cry with relief and we hugged. Seeing her cry made, me tear up, and she was so thankful that I understood. Even though I am a little disappointed, there is always next year and I can now go home to the Britt Draft Horse Show.

So I will be helping Ashley and Sharon with stalls, working horses, and general upkeep of the farm while Sylvia is gone. I am thinking about telling the scheduler at McDonald's to schedule me, but I would also like to spend some time with my family and go to the State Fair with them. So we'll just see what happens.

Summertime

It has been quite a while since I have posted, so I thought I would catch everyone up on what has been going on...

My internship at Beahr Ridge Arabians went great!! In fact, I am still working there every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Right now I am cleaning stalls, going to shows as a groom, prepping horses for workouts, and working/learning on a finished show horse named Kingslee, who is a Canadian National Champion. How amazing is that? Not everything has been picture perfect though, but that will come in a later blog. To summarize, we have gone through Sylvia getting hurt, people being fired, and new people coming in. It sure has been interesting, but the environment is great and the people are really nice when they aren't creating drama!! I really like it there, and hope to get some much needed experience out of it for future jobs.

I graduated out of the Horse Science Program at Kirkwood, but am still going to stick around for another couple of semesters and take up Literature. I will also be taking Training 1 again so I can get back into shape and get my confidence back. On Wednesday, I will go home to get my Dependency Verification form signed and to play with Mugsy, my family's new St. Bernard puppy.

Getting Mugsy was my...get ready for this...MOM's idea. She saw a picture of his siblings at Hardee's in Garner and fell in love with it. So she grabbed a number and the rest is history because she and I know that my dad can't say no to dogs, or about any other animal. He is so cute and they brought him home the day I came to visit. Too bad I had to leave for work!!

I am still working at McDonald's, but have had to cut my hours in order to work at Beahr Ridge. But the paycheck is still there and is pretty consistent. I work on the weekends and Tuesday. We have gotten a few new high schoolers, a couple of whom give true meaning to the phrase "dumb blonde". Oh well, the others make up for them pretty well.

Right now my new roommate is moving in and, to my surprise, it was just her and her boyfriend. Hmm, normally I see parents helping out on moving day to give advice and see who they will be living with for the next year or so. So far she seems nice. She just graduated high school and that is about all I know about her. Hopefully that will change in the next couple of days.

Today is my day off from both jobs and I usually like to just lounge around doing nothing, which is what I have been doing, but after church, I went to Kohl's to get a new shower curtain and ended up getting a new rug to go along with it. I LOVE the rug, but the curtain looked so much better in the package. Maybe it will grow on me, but if it doesn't, I can always get a new one. I like color and the last theme was green and blue. This time it is blue, tan, black, and white/grey.

Well, that is about sums it up. The last couple of months have been crazy, and I have a feeling they are going to get crazier!!! Oh well, it'll keep things interesting for next time.
